Most party stress comes from a few things remembered too late. Use this checklist whether you are hosting at home or booking a hall.
Step 1: Home or hall?
- Home works when: the guest list is small, you have space to seat everyone, and someone can handle serving and cleanup.
- A hall works when: the list is growing, the building has no lift or parking, or you would rather enjoy the party than run it.
Step 2: Two to three weeks before
- Fix the date and a rough guest count (adults and kids separately).
- If booking a venue, check availability first — weekends go quickly.
- Decide the food: snacks only, a full meal, or food by the kilo.
Step 3: One week before
- Confirm the final guest count.
- Order the cake. For custom designs, give at least 2 days’ notice; for a guide to sizes, see how big a cake do I need.
- Sort out decor, return gifts and music.
Step 4: On the day
- Keep the cake in the fridge until 15–20 minutes before cutting.
- Have a knife, candles, matches or a lighter, plates, napkins and a bin bag ready.
- Share the location pin with guests and a landmark that is easy to find.
The small things people forget
- Guests who don’t eat eggs or onion-garlic — ask in advance.
- Seating for elders close to the action.
- A plan for leftovers (containers or foil).
